Ashtanga Half Primary

A dynamic practice inspired by the first half of the Ashtanga Primary Series. Beginning with the opening chant, then moving into a breath-led sequence of standing, seated, twisting, and back-bending postures. The practice generally follows the traditional structure, though some poses may be skipped or replaced, with room for variation, exploration, and personal challenge. Everything is adaptable to meet your needs. Class concludes with the closing sequence and time for relaxation and integration of your practice. All abilities are welcome.

Ashtanga Short Form ~COMING SOON~

1 hour - £12.00

A welcoming, beginner-friendly short form practice inspired by David Swenson’s accessible approach to Ashtanga. This is the ideal place to start if you’re new to yoga, returning after a break or want a mellower practice mid-week. We begin with a simple breath awareness, then move through an abbreviated version of the half primary sequence of standing and seated postures designed to build confidence, mobility, and familiarity with the practice. The pace is gentle, the movements are adaptable, and everything is offered with options to suit complete beginners. Class ends with a brief closing sequence and time for relaxation and integration.

FAQ

Do I need experience to attend?

No. Beginners are welcome. Variations, modifications, and guidance are offered so you can practice at a pace that suits your body and experience level. For all offering’s, students should feel comfortable getting up and down from the floor.

What should I expect in class?

Classes focus on breath, movement, and awareness. You’ll be guided through postures with an emphasis on steady breathing, mindful transitions, and personal exploration rather than perfection.

Is Ashtanga only for flexible or strong people?

Not at all. Ashtanga is adaptable and meets you where you are. Strength and flexibility develop over time through consistent practice.

What if I have injuries or limitations?

Please let the teacher know before class. Modifications and alternatives are available, and you’re encouraged to listen to your body and rest when needed

What should I bring to class?

A yoga mat, comfortable clothing you can move in, and water. A small towel can be helpful as the practice can be warming.

Should I eat before class?

It’s recommended to practice on an empty or light stomach. If needed, allow at least 2–3 hours after a meal.
